Methods

Information Mapping

Information Mapping® is a recognised technique of analysing, organising and visually presenting information. Developed by Robert E. Horn, the method is based on research into how the human mind actually reads, processes, remembers and retrieves information.

Plain English

Plain English is writing in a clear, concise, well-structured manner that is reader focused and appropriate for the intended audience. Guidelines promote the use of precise, straightforward and familiar language - avoiding jargon and clichés. The aim is for readers to understand a message at first reading in the same sense the writer meant it to be understood. Layout and presentation of information should also support readability.

Global English

Global English (Rachel McAlpine, 2005) is communicating in a customised and simplified manner that non-native English speakers find easy to understand. Selecting words carefully, shaping sentences well and avoiding common linguistic traps form the principles of global English. Where Plain English principles may hold certain hazards for international audiences, Global English helps to ensure cross-cultural communication success.
